Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has extended greetings to Belarusians as the country celebrates Day of People's Unity, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“Today is a special day - we are celebrating a new national holiday for the first time. It draws us back to the momentous events in the history of our native land. 17 September 1939 marked the beginning of the reunification of Eastern and Western Belarus, the formation of the united Belarusian nation,” said the president.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: “Having gone through the pain of the Great Patriotic War, the devastation of the 1990s, the hybrid aggression unleashed against the state today, we have kept what lives in our hearts, what can never be given up and what cannot be sacrificed. This is our country, Belarus, thanks to which we remain one nation.”

“May the people's unity, hardened by tough times, strengthened by the achievements of the winners, become a source of the greatest spiritual power and devotion to the Fatherland for the future generations of Belarusians,” the president wished.
