According to the source, suggestions have been made to expand the list of agencies tasked with counteracting extremism to include justice bodies, financial investigation and monitoring bodies, municipal executive and administrative bodies, the Education Ministry, and the Information Ministry.
Valery Shulyak said that the legislation had not previously specified the government agency in charge of coordinating counter-extremism efforts of all the government agencies. “The bill fixes the shortcoming. It suggests entrusting law enforcement agencies with coordinating the counter-extremism efforts. It will allow promptly responding to emerging challenges and threats,” the official noted.
The bill on counteracting extremism will be brought into the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus soon.
