The customs infrastructure at the checkpoints on the border with Poland has been upgraded and expanded, with all technical systems operating normally, Viktor Zubik, Head of the Directorate for Customs Control Organization of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The customs bodies are fully prepared for the resumption of traffic at the Belarusian checkpoints Bruzgi and Berestovitsa on the border with Poland. Customs shifts are staffed with personnel from the closed checkpoints. The customs infrastructure has been upgraded and expanded. All technical means are functioning in standard mode,” said Viktor Zubik.

According to him, during the closure of the Bobrowniki checkpoint, Belarus reconstructed the Berestovitsa checkpoint. “We built a dedicated channel system for trucks on the exit route, a separate lane for buses, and modernized the modules housing customs and border guard officers. In addition, we constructed a dedicated bus passenger processing hall and a weigh-in-motion and dimension control complex,” Viktor Zubik added.

“As for the Bruzgi checkpoint, it has also been upgraded. Most notably, the number of traffic lanes for vehicles has been increased,” he said.

The head of the Directorate for Customs Control Organization stated that before the traffic suspension, new equipment for the electronic monitoring of truck queue registration had been installed at both checkpoints. “The upgrades are significant. The conditions for individuals crossing the border will improve,” he concluded.

According to an official notification from Poland, the closed checkpoints Kuźnica Białostocka and Bobrowniki will begin operating at 2:00 am on 17 November.
