A mammoth tusk has been discovered during road construction works near Vitebsk, the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus told BelTA.

“During road construction work in the vicinity of Vitebsk, workers unearthed a unique find – a completely intact, well-preserved mammoth tusk. Thanks to the prompt response and careful handling by the construction team, the artifact was successfully extracted without damage,” scientists reported.

The mammoth tusk will be added to the collection of the new National History Museum of Belarus. “An agreement has been reached between Vadim Lakiza, Director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences, and Aleksandr Khramoi, Director of the National History Museum, with the participation of Aleksei Avlasovich, Head of the Belarus Archaeology Center, to transfer this rare paleontological specimen to the future National History Museum,” the institute noted.

“We express sincere gratitude to all those who contributed to preserving this valuable artifact,” scientists said.
