Belarus, Russia sign agreement on cooperation in science

The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Russian Academy of Sciences have signed an agreement on cooperation in science, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

A delegation from the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, led by Chairman of the Presidium Vladimir Karaniк, visited Moscow, Russian Federation where they held talks with President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Krasnikov.

The parties discussed promising areas and mechanisms of cooperation between the two academies, including in fundamental and applied scientific research in key areas of science and technology development and collaboration within the International Association of Academies of Sciences. The Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus signed an agreement on cooperation in science. 

The Belarusian delegation also met with Director General of the Roscosmos State Corporation Dmitry Bakanov to discuss the development of a Russian-Belarusian ultra-high-resolution (0.35m) Earth remote sensing satellite and a space system based on it. Consideration was also given to cooperation between Belarus and Russia in space research and space-based information technologies and the implementation of Union State programs and projects, among other topics.

The visit of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences delegation to Moscow concluded with a tour of the Kurchatov Institute Research Center. The parties discussed promising areas and mechanisms for institutional collaboration; the operation of the Kurchatov Institute’s representative office in Belarus. The Belarusian delegation also got familiar with the institute’s research infrastructure.
