27.01.2025

Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko met with President of the Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira in Minsk on 27 January, BelTA correspondent reports.

Igor Sergeyenko noted that the current meeting actually continues the agreements reached last year. The delegation of the Belarusian Parliament attended Fourth Ordinary Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Pan-African Parliament with the participation of parliaments of 55 African countries at the invitation of the PAP leadership. “During the trip, we signed a memorandum of cooperation and were admitted as an observer in this structure. This gives us an opportunity to develop parliamentary ties. African states show serious interest in Belarus in terms of developing not only political but also economic ties. We will have the opportunity to attend the sessions and speak on various problems of the international situation and to develop contacts with the parliaments of the countries that work there. This is quite an interesting structure,” he said.

Development of cooperation provides additional opportunities in terms of establishing new contacts and anticipating economic relations on certain issues, Igor Sergeyenko emphasized

At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the election in Belarus and discussed the possibility of cooperation at the inter-parliamentary platforms of both countries.

A delegation of the Pan-African Parliament headed by Fortune Charumbira took part in the international observation of the presidential election in Belarus. Before the meeting with Igor Sergeyenko, the president of the Pan-African Parliament made an entry in the book of distinguished guests.
