Kochanova: Belarus-China relations at an unprecedented high level

29.05.2024

The relations between Belarus and China have reached an unprecedented high level, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said during the first meeting of the High-Level Committee on Cooperation between the Legislative Bodies of the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on 28 May, BelTA has learned.

"Belarus is proud and values its friendship with Great China. The highest level of relations between our countries is primarily the result of the efforts by the wise leaders of our states," Natalya Kochanova said. “For more than three decades, Belarus and China have made great headway in developing political, economic and humanitarian relations and have achieved an unprecedented high level of comprehensive cooperation. Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has met with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping many times, which confirms the particularly trusting nature of the Belarusian-Chinese relations. In September 2022, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Samarkand, the leaders of Belarus and China adopted a joint declaration to bring relations to a new level of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership.

Belarus and China are united by a lot in terms of moral values, which we jointly protect from external encroachments and attempts to replace them with alien concepts and values that destroy sovereign countries from within, Natalya Kochanova emphasized. "This provides a reliable foundation for the interstate relations, the inter-parliamentary dialogue," the speaker said. “Our parliaments have long been cooperating on a bilateral basis and within the framework of international organizations. We have a well-developed legal framework of the bilateral relations, which is replenished with new agreements every year. Having signed the agreement between the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the National People's Congress in 2023, having set up the High-Level Committee, we have taken our inter-parliamentary cooperation to a qualitatively new level."

Natalya Kochanova noted that the first meeting of the committee will be an important milestone in the history of Belarusian-Chinese parliamentarism. "We attach great importance to the High-Level Committee and the role it can play in strengthening interstate and inter-parliamentary dialogue, promoting the effective implementation of the agreements reached by the parties at the highest and high levels," the speaker added.
