Belarus’ upper chamber to hold its first session on 12 April

The first session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus of the eighth convocation is scheduled for 12 April, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said, BelTA reports.

“We plan to hold a session on 12 April,” said Igor Karpenko.

“There is no time to waste,” added the head of the Central Election Commission. “The formation of the Belarusian People’s Congress is in progress. Some of those entities that have the right to send their delegates to the Belarusian People’s Congress are already completing the election procedure. Naturally, preparations are underway to arrange the first meeting of the Belarusian People’s Congress. The organizing committee is busy, the schedule is pretty tight. Thus, we need to work hard and fast in order to resolve all issues.”
