MFA: Belarus is ready to resume flights with Israel at the earliest opportunity

Belarus is ready to resume flights with Israel at the earliest opportunity, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz told BelTA on the sidelines of a joint meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defense Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils in Minsk on 22 November.

The day before, Israeli President Isaac Herzog called on foreign airlines to resume flights to Israeli airports, interrupted due to the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

"Of course, we have heard this call and take it seriously. We are fully prepared to meet Israel halfway and resume flights at the earliest opportunity. Our embassy in Tel Aviv will be instructed to officially confirm to the Israeli Foreign Ministry our readiness to respond to Isaac Herzog's call," Anatoly Glaz said.

Belarus is convinced that this is an important and necessary step, which will be positively received by people, because Belarus and Israel have had good relations for many years.

“They are based, among other things, on the closely intertwined human destinies and cultures. Today, when the international system is in disarray, developing people-to-people contacts, humanitarian and business ties are of particular importance. Regular air service plays an important role in this. For example, just a few weeks ago, Belavia made a special flight from Israel with the permission of the Israeli authorities, to evacuate, on the instruction of our head of state, Belarusian citizens and their family members from the conflict zone to Belarus. You have all seen how happy the passengers of the flight were. In the difficult times of pandemic and lockdowns, Belavia flights were very popular, including with Israeli citizens, whom were desperate to get home,” the spokesman for the ministry said.

As Israeli mass media reported, Israeli President Isaac Herzog issued his call during the daily MFA situation assessment on 19 November.

"From here we are issuing a call to the foreign airlines: return your flights to Israel,” the Israeli president said. He noted that it is time to start moving the wheels of the economy to stimulate economic activity, to strengthen Israel's economic ties.
