Lebedev: Belarus' full membership in SCO will strengthen the organization

Granting Belarus full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will strengthen the organization, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev told the media, BelTA has learned.

“I have recently taken part in a meeting of the SCO Heads of Government Council. The majority of the SCO member countries spoke in favor of granting Belarus full membership in the organization as soon as possible,” Sergei Lebedev said.

“I think it will strengthen the organization,” Sergei Lebedev said.

The CIS plenipotentiaries are holding a meeting at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 31 October. The plenipotentiaries are set to discuss the preparations for the 29th Minsk International Film Festival Listapad, will hear information on the activities of the CIS Coordination Council of Heads of Tax (Financial) Investigation Bodies in 2015-2023. The meeting is also set to take stock of the CIS Heads of State, Heads of Government Foreign Ministers Councils meetings in Bishkek. The CIS plenipotentiaries are also expected to consider issues related to interdepartmental consultations on the problems of ensuring international information security in the CIS, deepening cooperation between the CIS Executive Committee and the Eurasian Economic Commission, and aligning the legal bases of the EAEU and the CIS.
