Khrenin: Path to multipolarity will not be easy

30.10.2023

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin delivered a speech at the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, BelTA learned from the press service of the Defense Ministry.

Viktor Khrenin welcomed the participants of the forum and thanked his Chinese colleagues for the invitation and the opportunity to speak at the forum. “Once again, we have been given a unique opportunity to share our views on global security issues. Global security is the key theme of the entire forum. Therefore, the very first session focused on responsibility and cooperation of all countries in ensuring security,” said Viktor Khrenin.

According to the defense minister, this is becoming especially relevant in today's world as it is going through fundamental changes. “Belarus strives to preserve its sovereignty, the right to constructive interaction with all countries. And we see that this position is shared by the majority of free states on the planet. At the same time, we understand that the path to multipolarity will not be easy,” Viktor Khrenin said.

The defense minister noted that the transformation of the system of international relations is likely to be met with vigorous opposition from supporters of the unipolar world order. “They will continue to look for new opportunities to maintain their dominance. And military force, unfortunately, will remain one of the main leverages here,” Viktor Khrenin emphasized.

A reminder, the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum is taking place at the Beijing International Conference Center on 29-31 October. The event is attended by defense ministers and officials in the equal status from more than 40 countries.
