Belarus builds 840,000m2 of electric houses over past two years

Some 840,000m2 of electric houses have been commissioned in Belarus over the past two and a half years, Pavel Shkurko, head of the energy and gas supply office of the production and technology department of the Energy Ministry, told BelTA.

Plans for the ongoing five-year period envisage the construction of about 2 million square meters of electrified housing. “A total of 840,000m2 of such housing was commissioned since 2021 up to H1 2023. Energy consumption increased by 1 billion kWh over the period. These are quite acceptable figures on a national scale. Those monetary resources allocated for the construction of energy sources should be used for their intended purpose through selling electricity to consumers,” Pavel Shkurko said.

Converting homes that are now heated with solid stove fuel to electricity is just objectively convenient. “A person does not have to go and buy peat briquettes or similar products. Electricity in the house is environmentally safe, reliable and fair in cost,” the specialist concluded.
