Belarus would like to make its major focus on Leningrad Oblast in its cooperation with Russian regions, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Governor of Russia's Leningrad Oblast Aleksandr Drozdenko on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

Calling the relations with Leningrad Oblast exemplary, the Belarusian head of state emphasized: “We would like to place our primary focus on your region in Russia.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence that given the excellent relations between Belarus and Leningrad Oblast, the efficiency of their partnership should be higher.

“We both know what areas we need to work on in order to get a serious result,” the Belarusian leader said. He added that Aleksandr Drozdenko was a frequent visitor to Belarus, which showed his interest in the country.

“We are very grateful to you for this,” the head of state said, emphasizing his friendly attitude to Leningrad Oblast and its people, who are historically very close to Belarusians.

“We have the same understanding of further development paths and result planning. In general, our views are identical. If Belarusians and Leningrad Oblast residents start some business, they always strive to bring it to its logical conclusion and yield the best results,” the president said.
