EAEU prime ministers approve transport infrastructure development plan

The prime ministers of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) approved plans for the development of transport infrastructure in the EAEU in the East-West and North-South directions, including the alignment with the Chinese Belt and Road initiative, official representative of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Iya Malkina told the media following the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held in Sochi on 7-8 June. The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting was attended by Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, BelTA has learned.

“Plans to develop transport infrastructure in the EAEU were approved at the recent meeting of the Intergovernmental Council. We are set to work out an additional list of the so-called bottlenecks and develop approaches to assess the necessary funding for their elimination,” Iya Malkina said. Plans are also in palce to continue the implementation of priority integration infrastructure projects in transport and digitalization of transport corridors in the EAEU.

Coordination of work on the development of transport infrastructure of Eurasian transport corridors and routes is carried out at the supranational and national levels in accordance with national plans and strategies for infrastructure development. “Every EAEU state has plans for the development of transport infrastructure: some are more ambitious, some are less, but everyone has them. Our task is to make sure that these plans are coordinated with each other, so that the roads communicate with each other as effectively as possible,” Iya Malkina explained.
